IN THE KITCHEN | SUSHI!

I made Sushi Rolls this afternoon. Tasted heavenly so I thought I would share!

Here's the recipe I used:

Ingredients

2 cups Japanese rice

2 1/2 cups water

4 tbs. rice wine vinegar

4 tbs. sugar

1/2 tsp. salt

Method

1. Put the rice in a bowl and was it in several changes of water untl the water becomes clear, stirring gently by hand. drain rice in a sieve for 1 hour. (i skipped this step due to impatience.. it turned out fine without having done this)

2. Combine rice and water in a pot, cover, and bring to boil on medium to high heat. Reduce heat to very low and cook for 15 minutes. Turn off heat and let the pot sit, covered, for another 15 minutes.

3. Mix rice with folding motion to make it fluffy. Insert dry tea towel under the lid to absorb excess moisture.

4. Transfer rice to a large shallow container.

5. Mix the rice wine vinegar, sugar, and salt together thoroughly and pour on the rice all at once. (I put them on separately, still tasted fine)

6. Mix quickly and gently with a wet wooden spatula while fanning the rice to cool it quickly.

7. Cover container with a damp tea towel until use but do not refrigerate. Use while the rice is as freshly cooked as possible.

Sushi Rolls (Assembly)

What you'll need:

Nori sheets

Cup of hot water

Knife

Bamboo rolling mat

1. Chop up whatever ingredients you want to put in your rolls. I used Avocado and Cream Cheese in mine. So I cut the Avocado into thin strips and placed them in a bowl until I was ready for them. The Cream Cheese I rolled into strips (about the width of the Nori sheets.)

2. Place a Nori sheet on top of the rolling mat. With wet hands, spread the rice on the nori in a layer about 1/2 inch thick, leaving a 1/2 inch border at the near and far end.

3. Place ingredients (Avocado & Cream Cheese in my case) on the rice nearest to you.

4. Roll the mat tightly away from you making sure that the mat stays on top of the roll and doesn't get rolled into it.

5. Lightly dampen edge of Nori sheet to help it stick before you finish rolling.

6. Cut the roll crosswise with a sharp DAMP knife (if knife is not damp, your roll will stick to it) and serve!

If you have wasabi powder, mix wasabi powder with water until it's the right consistency.

VOILA! There's a way to make it so the sushi is on the outside of the nori sheet, but it involves using saran wrap and I couldn't remember how to do it without my mom's help so if you figure it out.. let me know!

DISLIKE: COCKY SONS OF BITCHES

Why is it that when s0meone see's a little bit of success (or a lot) they think they're entitled to start acting like an butthole? I'm looking at some people in the entertainment industry in particular that I've met that have bigger ego's than they should.

I think the most attractive quality a person can possess is humility. If you're cocky, you don't have anything for me. I know there's a difference between cocky and confident, but confidence is something you exude, it isn't something you say in words.

Stay humble, if not to avoid pissing me off, at least because there's always someone out there that's going to be better than you. Being humble allows you to progress. If you think you're the best, you'll stagnate.

WANTED: BMX BIKE

I don't plan on doing any tricks on it (LOL can you imagine!?) and all I know about bikes is what I've read on forums, so if you're reading this and you know more than i do please drop some knowledge on me! Used is fine, cheap is preferable. Granted, cheap and used bikes probably won't look like the pictures I posted above.

Bikes are good for getting around if you don't have far to go, good for the environment, and for your personal fitness. & Pegs are good for a friend to ride with you on the back =)

iChat is fun! Almost exactly the same as Skype.. but for some reason, its just cooler!! Don't ask me why it just is OKAY!? I like how you can change the effects. Couldn't stop laughing at my friend Cina when he pretended he was on a rollercoaster and when he put the "stretch" effect on (if you have a mac or have ever used a mac you'll know what i'm talking about!)

I know a lot of you are going to be thinking "Come on Brit, i've BEEN iChatting.. get with the times!" So to that I say fuck you! I'm a little behind on the Maclife, give me a break =)

DIGGY SIMMONS | THE FIRST FLIGHT MIXTAPE

Little Digs from Run's House (a Reality TV show that follows the lives of Rev Run and his family) is pursuing a rap career! I wouldn't say I'm at all impressed with the tape, I'd only suggest downloading it if your at all curious to see how the youngin' sounds on the microphone. To me, it doesn't sound like anything I haven't already heard but I will say that it's not some no-talent-having-spoiled-child-that-got-a-taste-of-fame-and-wants-more attempt at a mixtape. To sum it up - the beats don't really do anything for me, it's lyrically decent, and flow is nice.

He's such a cutie.

THE ENDORPHIN RUSH

For so long I underestimated the power of a good work out in the morning. Besides morning sex I don't think there's a better way to start your day... ;) but it's a chemical thing really - All those endorphins just want to make you feel good. I don't know if it's the membership to She's Fit I just bought, or the warm weather we've been having lately that's reminded me that bikini season is on the way, but I'm definitely starting to understand that it's not just about your body, it's about your mental health too.

Arnold had it right.

Shout out to Emily-Kiah Jewell who's been looking especially fabulous lately. I admire you, and I hope you know your a perfect example of hard work paying off!

RIP ALEXANDER MCQUEEN

I know it's been mentioned on every blog already but when a man of his caliber passes, it's not about being the first to post. I have to pay my respect to this great designer. An innovator of fashion, he influenced the industry as soon as he set foot in it, and it will never be the same now that he's left it.



It's sad and unfortunate but I often find the most creative people in the world are the most troubled.
May he rest in peace.
